Sanlan Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary

The privately-owned 501(c)3 organization covers nearly 130 acres of undeveloped landscape and is said to rival many state parks in terms of its natural beauty. On the south, the property is bounded by Banana Lake, home to water birds, ospreys, and even bald eagles. This area is included annually in the Audubon bird count, so bird watchers take note!

Hiking is a great exercise with a wide range of benefits: stronger muscles, denser bones, improved heart and lung heath, and mental benefits from being in a natural environment! Other nature attractions include:

        • Butterfly garden

        • 7 miles of meandering nature trails

        • 8 bodies of water on premises

        • SANLAN TRAILS: In today’s high-tech world, you may find it helpful to use your phone’s map feature along with the downloadable trail map below to stay oriented. Most devices display lakes, waterways, and your exact location—plus, you’ll have the added security of carrying a phone.

Please note that trails may be temporarily closed after storms or heavy rain. Remember, you are exploring “the wild” in Florida, where you may encounter insects, birds, snakes, alligators, and other wildlife. Always keep a safe distance, as wild animals can be unpredictable in their natural environment.

You won’t get lost as long as you remain on the trail. If at any point you feel uneasy, simply retrace your steps to return to camp.
